episode #30 // Sacred Rhythms: Learning to Pray // A Conversation with Shekea Moreno

In this week’s episode, Shekea Moreno and I discuss prayer's spiritual discipline. We often think prayer is complicated and too difficult, but it is simply a conversation with God. Through various seasons, God has used prayer in Shekea’s life to show her how to rest and trust Him with everything. She shares some simple yet profound truths that will foster your desire to grow in prayer.

Shekea is a wife, mama, homeschool teacher, and writer who is passionate about living and mothering intentionally. She makes her home in Northern Virginia with her husband, Marcos, and our two daughters, Mia and Sarai.

Her heart is simply to encourage other mamas toward Jesus and his call in motherhood. This began from a deep conviction to help mamas live aware of his presence and the ease in helping their children to see the same, one teachable moment at a time.

She is the creator and CEO of This Mama Company, a brand for the daily offering up of your mothering.

MEMORABLE QUOTES

[In homeschooling] my family intentionally tries to point my girls in everything we are learning to Jesus. We are making discipleship ordinary in our homeschool day and beyond that.

There is power in the name of Jesus.

It’s all about what are you leaving in them [your children], not necessarily for them.

I want them to literally see me walk out what I want them to walk out.

Prayer begets prayer.

The more that you pray the more you want to pray.

It really does tether you to Him.

He’s always there. You can pray all the time in anything and through anything.

I don’t always just look for those moments of silence, but I’m in every moment with Him.

Prayer is not just to say, “This is what I want, please give it to me.” It’s all about knowing Him and becoming closer to Him.

The beauty of His heart is that He’s not saying we can’t come to Him with a request.

Prayer is simply a conversation.

How precious is it to think that Someone always wants to listen to what you have to say?

It is meant to be a heart-to-heart thing with Someone Who already knows everything.

I can trust Him with it all. He can handle it all. He wants it all.
