episode #29 // Sacred Rhythms: Prioritizing God's Word in Daily Life // A Conversation with Suzanne Chambers
Welcome to 2024! In today's episode, I share a little bit with you about my heart behind this new series: Sacred Rhythms.
This week, I get to introduce you to my dear friend and mentor, Suzanne Chambers. Suzanne is a wealth of wisdom and has been a true blessing and spiritual mother in my life for nearly ten years. You will be so encouraged by her honest and practical thoughts that will help you to get into the Word and learn to savor it for the treasure that it is.
Suzanne Chambers is mom to 4 homeschooled but now grown and graduated kids, “Suzie” to 5, soon to be 6 grandkids, and wife to one awesome man, Paul. They have been married for 37 years, and enjoy cheering on the UGA Dawgs and mentoring those in the seasons behind them in marriage and parenting. Suzanne has published a devotional book for women and is also an educational consultant for parents and students.
Before being promoted to the position of “stay-at-home mom”, she worked in Advertising with corporate Chick-fil-A. Her passion has long been helping women fall in love with God’s Word and living in the joy of Christ. And truly, Suzanne’s heart resonates with this verse: “I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.” (3 John 1:4)
MEMORABLE QUOTES
When I became a stay-at-home mom, I began taking Precept Bible studies. That’s where the flame [for God’s Word] was lit, and I don’t ever want it to go out.
God lets us be parents, not because the kids need us, but because we need the sanctification.
What a treasure that He would use the blessing of children to sanctity us.
The more I began to study His Word, the more beautiful and precious and glorious and practical I saw that it is.
We all do things that we think we don’t want to because we know they’re beneficial.
I began to see that as I would pray, He would answer, which motivates me to pray more.
I would encourage us all to write down what we pray for. We don’t know if He answered or not because we’ve forgotten what we prayed!
If it’s hard to get into His Word, talk to Him about it.
Be intentional about memorizing His Word, because that gives the Holy Spirit something to work with.
Praying Scripture for my children and husband..is probably the best thing I’ve ever done and the most valuable.
Just ingesting His Word…will be transformative in us. That’s the power.
Our kids will catch our priorities.
Our kids [need to] see us get excited about His Word and have a passion for it and prioritize it.
My family has always been frugal, and that has enabled me to be a stay-at-home mom. So the kids knew how frugal I was. When each of them turned ten, I offered to pay them $100 if they would read through the Bible. That communicated to them that God’s Word is precious…and now I’m doing that with my grandchildren.
He says He will reward us for obeying Him.
He rewards us for doing the right thing. He’s our model.
