Episode # 38 // Held in His Hands: Embracing Hope Through Pain with Laura Godfrey

In this week’s episode, Laura Godfrey shares a powerful, personal story of how God showed up in her weakest moment and let her know that He was for her and with her.

Whether you’re walking through chronic illness, job loss, financial difficulties, or strained relationships—whatever your suffering situation is—God is for you, too, friend.

MEMORABLE QUOTES

People talk about God’s still small voice, well His voice was not still or small in that moment. It was loud.

I remember hearing the Lord say, “Get up. You are not going to sit there on the floor and cower because of those lies, so get up.”

He said, “You do not believe those lies. Those are not true. I have good things for you.”

“All of this will be for your good and My glory. You walk out of this room with your head held high, because you’re going to be ok. You’re going to be better than ok. You are going to thrive.”

“I have you in the palm of My hand, and I will never let you go.”

It was as if the Lord was saying to me, “You can stand up because the weight of this doesn’t have to be on your shoulders anymore. I will carry this for you.”

The Lord was so gracious [to tell us] “this is all for your sanctification.”

God doesn’t waste anything, and He definitely doesn’t waste your pain.

He has used everything we learned in those seasons to make us stronger in the sense that we know who is strong enough—He is the one lifting us up.

Walking through pain gives you a beautiful perspective on life. You learn to continue to keep your sense of humor even when things are really hard.

We learned how to minister to people who are going through painful experiences. We wouldn’t have known that had we not walked through it ourselves.

Everybody has their own version of pain.

When you walk through pain, you’re going to gravitate toward thinking about yourself a lot…Focus on someone else.

There is beauty everywhere and we have a tendency to miss it. But you can still see it even in the midst of pain.

He cares about everything you’re going through. He cares about the things that bring tears to your eyes.

The hard and the good exist at the same time.

The grief and the hope exist at the same time.

I had the false theology of “If I made all the right choices, then God was going to honor those choices and I was going to have everything I really wanted.”

I want them [my girls] to see us trusting God when it seems ridiculous.
