Episode # 37 // Held in His Hands: Finding Purpose in Seasons of Waiting with Jules Smoak
This week, I get to introduce you to my friend Jules Smoak. She is a radio talk show host and is such a delight. Jules vulnerably shares with us about her lifelong struggle with dyslexia and how she has learned to see it as a gift from God. She also has a specific word of encouragement for those who feel forgotten by God while waiting for a dream He has laid on their hearts. You’re going to be so encouraged, friend!
MEMORABLE QUOTES
What I do is not who I am. That doesn't define me.
Dyslexia touches every aspect of who you are.
If God is sovereign over all things, then He is sovereign even over my learning disabilities.
It's God who I am serving and it's not my dream
You are a child of God, and that is what needs to define you.
The lie that we tell ourselves is that we have been forgotten by God, and there is no way He can ever forget us. He's a covenant God and He has a covenant love for us. And there is no way that He could forget us, but it feels that way, you know?
Just because you might not hear Him or you see Him, doesn't mean He’s not talking and does not mean He’s not working.
God doesn't deal with “what ifs.”
I have come to the conclusion that my dyslexia is a gift. It took me a long, long time to get to that conclusion. It's a gift for me because it helps me to rely on God and not my own strength constantly.
You want to take down all the hurdles for your kids when that's not necessarily the best thing for them. So it kills me, it hurts my heart when I see their disappointment, but then I also have to trust God that He loves them more than I do.
