#sistersofinfluence: Laura Godfrey
Today I am so excited to introduce you to my sweet friend Laura Godfrey. She and I met in college way back when because we were both involved in the Baptist Collegiate Ministries on campus. Her husband, Matt led what was then called the "New Dawg" ministry for incoming freshmen like me. She has the most beautiful singing voice, a sweet spirit, and some pretty adorable little daughters. She's one of eight kids, was homeschooled, and has an amazingly great fashion blog titled after her daughters, Reese and Rowen. I know you'll love her!
Tell us about yourself. Who are you?
My name is Laura Godfrey. I married my highschool sweetheart a little over eight years ago. We have two little blonde hair blue eyed girls that we adore.
How did you come to know the Lord?
I was raised a pastor's kid so I literally grew up in the church. I got saved at VBS when I was in second grade. But I really came to know the Lord at a revival in middle school.
What do you think it means to be a woman of influence right where you are?
I love this question. I think one of the greatest ways I can be an influence where I am is to actually BE where I am. I'm the kind of girl that's always ready for the "what's next" so finding contentment right where I am has always been a struggle. I think it's easy to confuse contentment and complacency. Once the Lord spoke clearly into my heart about being content to be where He has me for each season, I began to enjoy the right now. I have the incredible honor of influencing these two sweet girls who I spend 90% of my time with. If I'm constantly in a rush toward "next", I rush right past their little seasons too. I think a lot of other moms struggle here too so I love getting to share this message whenever I can. Love your season. Live your season.
How does the Lord allow you to shine His light through motherhood?
Being a mommy is HARD some days. It's soooooo good but gracious it can get on my last nerve! I am constantly dependent on the Lord to speak gently and lovingly in all circumstances THRU me. He is so good to me and I love feeling His presence during these long days of shepherding little hearts.
What is the best piece of marriage advice you've been given?
This is an easy one. My dad told me and my husband before we got married to always try to out serve one another. It's so easy to get into the rut of "what can you do for me?" so if your goal is to serve and out serve each other, you end up creating this sweet environment within your home. It sets a great example for your kiddos, too!
What is your favorite verse or passage of Scripture?
This varies depending on the stage of life but I think Psalm 23:6 is a definite fav through all different seasons. "Your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life." I love being reminded that God is pursuing me every single day.
What is one truth you want others to remember and cling to?
The truth I cling to each and every day is that God loves me and He is worthy to be trusted. I am fine feeling loved so long as I feel I've earned it. But when I'm in a bad place, it's very hard to believe that I can still be loved. At the same time, when things are going well for me and my family, it's easy for me to believe that Jesus can be trusted. It's when things get reeeeeeeeally hard that it's tougher to say those words. But I've found that repeating that truth out loud silences the lies of the enemy every. single. time.
And last but not least: coffee or tea?
Oh, man! Can I pick both? I like my tea sweet as can be with tons of ice and my coffee warm and bordering on a dessert.
