Tuesday ten: Psalms of Comfort

Y'all, I love the Psalms. They are a place of refuge and hiding for me. A place where I know that I can find every emotion and yet still find hope in the Lord. Knowing that the Psalms were written by David, a shepherd boy turned mighty warrior and man after God's own heart is such a comfort to me. I love knowing that a simple and ordinary man was used by His heavenly Father to do great things, yet he was human and flawed, just like me. Here's ten of my favorite verses and passages from the Psalms.

1. The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; You hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken...You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
-Psalm 16:5-8,11

2. For God alone my soul waits in silence; from Him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.
-Psalm 62:1-2

3. Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in His commandments! His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.
-Psalm 112:1-2

4. Trust in the Lord, and do good' dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him.
-Psalm 37:3-7a

5. How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? But I have trusted in Your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me.
-Psalm 13:1,5-6

6. Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear Him have no lack! The young lions suffer want and hunger, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
-Psalm 34:8-10

7. When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?
-Psalm 56:3-4

8. Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into His presence with singing! Know that the LORD, He is God! It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.
-Psalm 100:1-3

9. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.
-Psalm 103:1-2

10. When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, "The Lord has done great things for them." The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad.
-Psalm 126:1-3
