the wheel

I started reading one of my favorite books, Tuck Everlasting, to my kids last week, and they are loving it. What a joy to share with them one of my favorites. The first time I read this book was in sixth grade; I was about twelve years old. I remember finding the themes of eternal life and the potential romance between Winnie and Jesse so fascinating. Yesterday, I went to a school fair with Tanya and Judit, and as I looked up at the Ferris wheel, I thought about the how Natalie Babbit, the author, describes time as a wheel. We just keep going around and around on this wheel, but what are we really doing with our time here? Francis Chan says in his book Crazy Love that how we live our days is how we live our lives. So what are we doing with our lives? Are we making them count? Do we remember that our days, in fact, are numbered by an eternal and timeless God? Lord, help me to remember that You know the number of my days, and help me not to waste time on fruitless endeavors.
