Quotes from this episode:
Seeing how long suffering the Lord has been as we have built our family has been really sweet to see.
God's kindness can supersede and work through our weakness.
Try as I might, I cannot generate supernatural saving faith in my children.
Watching our children start to have a genuine relationship with Christ has been a picture of the Lord's kindness.
It is a miracle that our marriage is still standing 25 years in.
As a mom, you can tell that an impatient response is not as effective as a patient response.
When you are snappy with your children, you can immediately see that there is a veil that falls.
When we act like children with our children, we exasperate our children.
Christianity is not only kind, but it's mature.
Understanding how patient the Lord is with us helps to remind us that God is so infinitely patient with us a million times a day. So how can we not extend that to our children if we call ourselves Christians?
Our kids need to see that we need grace, too. We can show them that we are on this journey together.
Our kids need to see that mama needs help from the Lord in order to help them.
Young moms can lose the reminder of the reality that you are demonstrating over and over again what it means to be a humble follower of Christ.
All of that is constantly repeating these lessons of humility that are generating authentic faith in your kids. It's easy to lose that in the humdrum of motherhood because you think to yourself, "Nothing is happening here. We are not making any forward progress."
It's only in hindsight that you start to see that all of those day to day moments in the grocery store and in the kitchen and in the living room--they were all going somewhere. This is all very purposeful.
All of the challenges and painful things are opportunities for God to display His glory and goodness in our lives, and in there He is building strong fruit of Christian maturity in us.
If I'm careful to mine for those riches, I can see how each opportunity that looked like very futile or frustrating or pointless at the time was really developing rich, deep roots in my life.
The darkness is a deeper experience of knowing God's goodness.
